As you know, the City of Hercules is currently in financial turmoil. The City has eliminated nearly half of its employees, including 33% of its Police Force in order to reduce deficit spending. Along with the Police Officers, there were also several civilian positions eliminated which directly affected key programs within the Hercules Community. Programs like Neighborhood Watch, Abandoned Vehicle Abatement and Traffic Safety are just a few areas that will continue to suffer at the current staffing levels.
The remaining Officers who make up the Hercules Police Officers Association have and continue to be dedicated to the community of Hercules. In order to further reduce the City's budget shortfall they have agreed to over 15% reductions in salary and benefits and agreed to tier their retirement system for all new hires after July 1, 2011.
In order to stop further reductions within the Police Department the City must balance the budget and this will not be possible without an increase in revenue. "Measure A" could do just that. Please join together with KOPS-PAC and say "YES"to Public Safety in your community! VOTE YES on Measure A!
